Humana rocks the Windy City with Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon

Humana took its message of well-being to the streets as title sponsor of the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon July 18-19.

As a company committed to improving the health of the communities it serves by making it easy for people to achieve their best health, Humana’s race activities paired health and wellness with fun and inspiration.

Nearly 21,000 runners took part in the 5K, 10K and half-marathon races, with most – more than 15,000 – running the half marathon. Humana associates were well-represented, with 118 either running or volunteering.
To support runners and walkers, Humana brought back the popular Humana Vitality Cheer Squad, a website where fans and families could submit words of encouragement and cheers for anyone running the half marathon. Some 2,500 people took part, and their cheers were displayed on a giant, digital Cheer Board during the last mile of the race and were synced with each runner’s bib to ensure their cheers went live when they crossed the 12-mile mark.

In addition, Humana had an in-person Cheer Squad lining the last mile of the race to give runners and walkers a standing ovation and provide a much needed extra boost to finish strong.

Humana also inspired runners, walkers and spectators at the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon Expo. Humana opened its story-telling booth, where runners and walkers had a chance to share personal stories about their passion for running by leveraging the #rockyourhealth hashtag.

The Humana FatHead photo-printing station allowed anyone to take a face photo and print it on poster-size paper – perfect for cheering on the sidelines of the race. There were also free digital health quizzes and biometric screenings.

Runners and walkers could also help a great cause with Humana and Charity Miles. Runners and walkers could download the free Charity Miles app for Android or iPhone, select one of 30+ charities, and for every mile logged during the race, Charity Miles donated 25 cents to the selected cause. The Chicago runners and walkers contributed to the almost $29,000 that Humana-sponsored athletes helped raise over the weekend.
