Whether they are talking to members – on the phone or in their homes – or working in Technology, Human Resources, Analytics, Marketing, Operations, or many other roles, Humana’s nurses are passionate about improving the health of our members.
When recently asked why they chose the nursing profession, many took to Humana’s internal social media site, Buzz, to share their reasons. For Karen Rock, Utilization Management Nurse 2, becoming a nurse means being the “strength for those who are in need of comfort, understanding, healing, laughter, and love.”
Christy Hunt, Senior Care manager, telephonic nurse, became a nurse because she “loves people and serving them.”
The magnitude of their commitment to helping others is demonstrated through the most recent Gallup poll, where nurses were ranked as the most trusted profession in 2017, topping the list of 22 professions for the last 16 years! Nurses are trustworthy and able to build strong and lasting relationships with each other and their patients. This is critically important as we think about the role our nurses play in Humana’s consumer-centric, health-focused strategy.
Celebrating nurses this week means that we are taking time to say “thank you” for their dedication to a profession that puts the needs of others at the center of everything they do. As our Chief Nursing Officer, Kathy Driscoll recently shared — “if more leaders were nurses, the world would be a better place.”
