Sports Illustrated is showcasing the 2019 National Senior Games, presented by Humana, which will take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from June 14 to 25. This year’s event will be the largest in history, with an expected 13,712 athletes competing across 20 medal sports both individually and as teams.
More than 3,000 volunteers will help manage the Games and ensure a fun and exciting environment for the tens of thousands of fans in attendance.
The Games began as a way to unify the 33 different senior athletic competitions that were taking place around the U.S. in the 1970s and 1980s. It has since grown into a biennial event that now showcases top athletes competing in sports that range from archery to cycling to swimming to volleyball to track and field.
