A two-time recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Sergeant Major Earl Forstall, celebrated his 100th birthday this week at Humana’s neighborhood center in Metairie, Louisiana.

Nearly 50 Humana members and area seniors attended Wednesday’s celebration, including several members of Humana’s Zumba class.

WDSU, the NBC affiliate in New Orleans, covered the event, and you can see that story here.

Sergeant Forstall served in the Army Air Force during World War II.  He was an engine specialist based out of Boise Air Force Base, and his first assignment was a B-17. He was then promoted to Crew Chief and assigned to a B-24 named “Queenie” that flew 59 missions without a mechanical failure.

On the verge of turning 100 on Sept. 23, Sergeant Forstall does not let age defy him and continues to face each day with an optimistic, can-do attitude. He works in his garden and attends strength and balance sessions at Humana’s Metairie community center every week.
