Humana recognized as a tech-forward health company

Digital health, virtual care and data analytics are helping Humana transition from “an insurance company with elements of healthcare to a healthcare company with elements of insurance,” said Vishal Agrawal, Humana’s Chief Strategy Officer. He spoke this week at CB Insights’ Future of Health conference in New York.

The event brought together hundreds of executives “from the world’s largest healthcare institutions, most disruptive startups, and most active private equity and venture capital investors.” The goal was to bring participants up to date “on the top trends, including the latest on AI, tech insurgents, wellness, digital health, pharma, regulation and more.”

The article notes that “Humana operates a mail-order pharmacy, has more than 230 owned or alliance primary care clinics and a large home health care provider, Kindred at Home. And the payer continues to build out capabilities to address members’ social determinants of health.”

Vishal said innovative technology will be critical to supporting those services.

“We’re using technology to enable better care for members,” the article quoted him as saying. “We’re creating a holistic platform for our members, and Medicare Advantage is a financing model that helps to do that, and technology is a key enabler of that journey.”

The article also noted Humana’s launch of digital health hub Studio_h, the company’s work with Doctor on Demand to offer virtual primary care, and an effort with Aspen RxHealth to offer Medicare Advantage patients an app that connects them with pharmacists.
