In 2019, Humana was the first of its peers to join the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). Then in January 2020, the health company presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Digital health is a fast growing area at CES. Heather Cox, chief digital health & analytics officer at Humana, explains why the company wanted to be at the center of the innovations to improve people’s health and wellness:

Heather provided more detail about how Humana’s Digital Health & Analytics team is making health easier when she spoke with FierceHealthcare at CES. The team is focused on “leveraging analytics to drive great new digital personalized experiences to extend care delivery to members when and how they need it,” she said.
Marc Willard, Humana senior vice president of Platform Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, was voted onto the CTA Health and Wellness Board in 2019. CES marks the Board’s large, annual get together, and Marc noted the variety of innovations being tied to digital health. “There’s everything from artificial intelligence (AI) to wearables.”
During a panel for CES’s Successful Clinician and Technology Partnerships, Marc discussed how Humana can co-create with healthcare providers. He shared the value of synthetic data, which is fully anonymous data but representative of real data, and how clinicians may be incorporated into agile work processes. After his panel, Marc met with Digital Trends to discuss “wellness and chronic disease management in people’s homes.”
In a session on AI’s strategic role in consumer health (AI Flexes It’s Shrewd & Significant Powers), Ang Sun, Humana’s vice president of Enterprise Data Science & Cognitive Artificial Intelligence, talked about how Humana “intelligent” technologies provide its employees with data and insights to create simple, personalized experiences for consumers and to build tools that make it easier for people to get care.
Ang shared his excitements around how natural language processing (NLP) technology can detect social determinants of health in unstructured data, which leads to a better understanding of the total health of Humana members.
At Humana’s CES booth, the company focused on meeting with collaborators who will help Humana tackle legacy challenges in the health care industry with data-driven solutions. Humana’s wellness and rewards program – Go365 – was also present to demonstrate how the company is already connecting with consumers through technology and engaging its members in their health.
On the CTA podcast, Heather said about CES, “It opens your eyes to just how rapidly the world is moving every year. (Humana is) excited to be there.”
