Feed your soul – and help feed others in need – with a special virtual event

Join us for a Storytellers Project live stream that benefits Feeding America

Social distancing is hard, but it’s even harder when you’re hungry.

On Thursday, May 14, USA Today’s Storytellers Project, with support from Humana, will host a special evening of storytelling, giving us all a chance to connect over a shared love of food while also helping feed those who need it most right now.

Benefitting Feeding America’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, this special storytelling night will feature chefs from across the country, including Rocco DiSpirito, Maneet Chauhan, Edward Lee, Aaron May, Claudette Zepeda and Marcus Samuelson, sharing stories about good food and cooking, making us feel closer while we’re apart.

“I’m always excited to be a part of something as amazing as the Storytellers Project. And when that is coupled with the added benefit of feeding people who are food insecure, it’s even better,” says Chef Aaron May. “I’m lucky enough to live my life because of what food and feeding people has provided for me, so food and feeding people seems like the most obvious way I can give back.”

More than 37 million Americans struggle with hunger, including 11 million children and almost 5.4 million seniors, and that was true before layoffs, school closings and other economic impacts of COVID-19.

Feeding America estimates that an additional 17.1 million people may become food insecure in the next six months. That translates to a total of 54.3 million people or a 46 percent increase in hunger as a result the COVID-19 health crisis.

“The COVID-19 health crisis has intensified food insecurity issues many were already facing, making the barriers to good health even harder to overcome, especially for the most vulnerable,” said Dr. William Shrank, Chief Medical Officer at Humana. “Humana is committed to ensuring everyone has the nutrition they need for a healthy lifestyle, and we are committed to partnering with organizations like Feeding America to help communities we serve meet their basic needs during this difficult time.”

Join us at 8:00 p.m. ET for an evening that will nurture your soul and help Feeding America supply food to those most strongly feeling the impact of COVID-19.
