To that end, Humana has joined the Catalyst CEO Champions For Change, a transformational diversity and inclusion initiative launched by Catalyst – a global thought leader and partner in accelerating the progress of women at work.

More than 60 leading global companies have signed the pledge, vowing to:
- Accelerate progress in the representation of women, including women of color, in executive/senior level positions over five years.
- Accelerate the representation of women, including women of color, on the company’s Board of Directors over five years.
- Strengthen the pipeline of women through an annual review of internal diagnostics and leverage leading practices to address any identified issues.
- Benchmark and track inclusion and continually improve the culture of inclusion within the organization.
- Share key representation metrics with Catalyst for benchmarking and for anonymized reporting of collective aggregate progress.
Catalyst has been working for more than 50 years to advance diversity, inclusion and gender equality at work. To accelerate this mission, Catalyst created the Catalyst CEO Champions For Change, an initiative that brings together company leaders who support diversity and inclusion by driving it in their organizations. The companies involved represent more than 10 million employees and nearly $3 trillion dollars in revenue globally.
The goal is to celebrate, engage and recognize CEOs and senior leaders who support and drive diversity and inclusion within their organizations. Gender equality is a complex issue, and having many people working on solutions in many different ways will create real, measurable change.
Humana is already collaborating with Catalyst in a pilot program called Men Advocating Real Change (MARC) Teams, which actively engages VP- and Director-level leaders as change agents. In this program, male leaders conduct “dialogue circles” with a select group of men and women.
The goal is to empower a group learning strategy for creating inclusive workplaces together. Participants advance the skills necessary to support a climate of inclusion, sharing perspective on ways to reduce bias and identify actions for individual change.
“The MARC Teams initiative creates permission space to have some very powerful conversations about leadership, bias and company culture,” said Latisha Schmitt, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Humana’s IT organization. “People are speaking openly, and many express having an increased personal stake in Inclusion & Diversity as they learn from each other’s perspectives. Together, they’re developing and championing the inclusive skillsets needed to improve innovation and business performance. “
